What to Do With Your Child’s School Crafts
February 27, 2012 | 1:49 pm

As a parent with two young children, I’m innundated on an almost daily basis with their school projects. Now, I’m not the overly sentimental type so I’m usually inclined to quietly deposit these creative masterpieces in the trash after an appropriate (brief) period of public display on the fridge. My wife, however, has a lot more angst about this and even I occasionally feel a twinge as yet another hand-crafted masterwork gets dumped in with the coffee grinds (particularly when the kids catch me doing it – and they do).

During a visit…

Looking for a Higher Quality Photo Book? Try a Storybook
February 2, 2012 | 11:10 am

While we’ve been big fans of turning images into photobooks we have to admit the quality of some of these photobook services aren’t always top notch. Often, when it comes to making photo books, you get what you pay for.

So we’re happy to report that there’s a new high-end offering on the market courtesy of HP. The company recently teamed with online photo merchandise boutique Pinhole Press to offer a higher quality photobook product that they’re calling a Storybook.

The Storybook product is the first Pinhole Press photo book that allows…

TV to Art in One Click
January 24, 2012 | 2:09 pm

While flat-panel TVs continue to be all the rage, the fact remains when they are turned off you’re left with a giant, black rectangle hanging on your wall. Enter Vutec’s ArtScreen product  – a customizable, retractable screen that transforms your flat-panel into a work of art when you’re done watching the TV.

Inside a hardwood frame, giclee artwork ascends or descends with the touch of a remote. When the screen or television is not in use, the digital art-on-canvas image of your choosing is displayed within the frame;…

A Word About What Kodak Did Right
January 19, 2012 | 2:54 pm

Ever since Kodak hit the financial rocks, there’s been no end to the post-mortems. Indeed, Kodak has become something of a case study of how not to handle a technological-shift in the business world (Kodak famously invented the digital camera decades ago but squirreled it away lest it eat into their film revenues).

And the facts do speak for themselves – Kodak’s filed for bankruptcy, so obviously they’ve done more than a few things wrong. But rather than join the pile-on, it’s worth pointing out that, from a consumer…

HP Faux Canvas
January 4, 2012 | 12:26 pm

We’ve been big fans of getting your images done as gallery warps and canvas prints and we’ve covered a number of sites that provide this service. The finished product is beautiful but the one caveat is the price as a well-done canvas print can cost north of $50 depending on the size you choose.

We recently posted an item on HP’s deal with Walmart and Meijer stores to offer what they are calling a “Faux Canvas” print service. The deal here is, along with being…

Shiny, Happy (Aluminum) Photos
December 28, 2011 | 1:13 pm

Sounds a bit strange at first but once you see an image printed on aluminum it’s pretty cool and quite stunning and we’ve actually tested a couple of these services of late and are excited to report the results were dazzling.

Aluminyze.com will put your image on a lightweight but hard sheet of aluminum using a special technology that actually infuses the image right into the body of the aluminum. A translucent coating is also placed over the image and you can order a easel stand built right into the…

There are plenty of Christmas Tree ornaments with tiny cut-outs for photo prints, but this ornament is constructed from the photos themselves. It’s courtesy of Shelly Haganman (via PetaPixel) who has put together a nice step-by-step how-to get you to the finish line….

Starting a New Photo Tradition
December 6, 2011 | 1:27 pm

This time of year, we are often surrounded by our families, coming together to celebrate. We pass on traditions in the kitchen, share memories at the dinner table, and enjoy quality time catching up on everything that has gone on in our lives throughout the past year.
