Most of us over the age of 25 have accumulated at least some photo prints and analog videos and the older one gets, the larger those collections become. A new service called PeggyBank has hit the scene, promising to bring that analog content into the digital era by scanning and digitizing your photos and videos. It costs $.45 to scan a photo at 600 dpi resolution and they’ll also scan slides and negatives and several video and film formats (8MM, VHS, etc.). You can have your digital files returned to you on a flash drive or DVD. You can check out the full price and service list here. They’ll also tackle specialized projects – such as videos that require editing.

There are, of course, multiple services, from online specialists like ScanDigital and ScanMyPhotos, to mass-merchants like Costco, that perform similar functions. Where PeggyBank seeks to differentiate itself is through its “PeggyVault” – an online storage service that comes free of charge with your digitization. From the Vault, you’ll be able to view and share your digital photos and videos via email or over social networks like Facebook and Twitter. The company says that storage in the vault is both free and unlimited, although you can’t upload your own digital photos or videos, it’s strictly for the photos and videos that PeggyBank has digitized for you.

But the best part of the vault is that you have the ability to download full resolution files for both your digital photos and videos. Meaning you have a free and secure online backup service for any analog print or video that you digitize. That’s a pretty nice touch.
